Mimi Casteel's Hope Well project captures the distinctive power of Eola-Amity Hills through meticulous vineyard work in this acclaimed AVA. The 2023 Strings bottling showcases the volcanic soils and elevation that define this subregion within the Willamette Valley.

Casteel brings deep Willamette Valley experience to Hope Well, crafting Pinot Noir that balances the natural intensity of the Eola-Amity Hills with graceful restraint. At 13.2% alcohol, the wine reflects a measured approach to extraction and ripeness.

More about Hope Well

Hope Well is Mimi Casteel's love letter to regenerative viticulture. She's not interested in shortcuts—100% Pommard clone, natural yeasts, whole-cluster fermentation, zero irrigation, zero tilling. A forester's daughter raising Pinot Noir in the Eola-Amity Hills with the kind of discipline that comes from actually giving a damn about soil, biodiversity, and what happens after the bottle gets drunk.

Flatiron's Take

From the Importer

What Polaner Selections has to say about this wine:

VineyardThe Hope Well vineyard sits perched on a ridge in the Eola-Amity Hills of the Willamette Valley. Hope Well is a beautiful place where Mimi Casteel lives and works. It is where her children run with bare feet, where lush swaths of native habitat are the architectural foundation of a rich, textural landscape. It is where the roots of grapevines stretch and mingle with the roots of a full and diverse ground cover, twining, sharing and passing on the great secrets of a place in time through miles of silvery, tubular threads of mycorrhizal fungi. It is a place where human animals labor with sheep, llamas, alpacas and goats to do the true good work of careful stewardship and humble attendance.OrientationEast facingSoilVolcanic (Jory) on Terrace, Ancient Marine Sediment on slopesViticultureThe Hope Well vineyard is meticulously farmed using 100% natural, organic and biodynamic methods. A chemical free environment that employs regenerative farming is important to create a place that thrives with biodiversity and well being.VinificationThe morning of harvest was nice and cold, so the must took 2 days to push a cap. One pumpover only for this lot, just a gentle submersion of the cap every day to coax the details out, but not go too far with extraction. No commercial yeasts or bacteria were used.Aging12 months in 1 year old French oak
