Kosher Sancerre is a short list, and Sancerre rosé is uncommon in its own right: the appellation allows only Pinot Noir for pink, so this is a single-variety Loire rosé rather than a blend. J. de Villebois is a young estate, founded in 2009 by Dutch owner Joost de Willebois — the family is French in origin, the name having picked up a W during a nineteenth-century move to the Netherlands — working with co-founder Thierry Merlet, now the estate's managing director, across the flint, clay and Kimmeridgian marl of the Centre-Loire. 2025 brought the driest May and June in over fifteen years and an August heatwave, with picking underway in late August; the regional read on the vintage is purity and freshness. Expect a crisp, dry, mineral rosé — and one of very few you'll find with kosher certification.
