A fully mature red Burgundy at a fair price is one of the rarest treats in wine, and here's one ready to pour. Greves is among Beaune's most celebrated premier crus, and this bottle from the historic, Meursault-based Domaine Jacques Prieur is pure organically farmed Pinot Noir from the excellent 1999 vintage, one of the Cote de Beaune's benchmark years. Now approaching three decades in bottle, it has shed its youthful edges entirely and moved into the ethereal, savory territory that makes old Burgundy so beloved. Expect resolved, silky tannins and a shift from red fruit toward forest floor and gentle spice. Decant it, take your time, and drink it soon.

Antonio Galloni

90 points

"Red-ruby. Cool aromas of raspberry, minerals and oak. Juicy, bright and dense, with sappy flavors of crushed red berries. Also rather energetically extracted, but this meaty, broad-shouldered wine has the inherent material to support it. Very ripe suggestion of strawberry preserves. Clearly silkier, sweeter and deeper than the Clos de la Feguine. Spicy finish features broad, ripe tannins and very good length." —Stephen Tanzer
