Jean-François Jacouton is making some of the most exciting, under-the-radar wines in Saint-Joseph, focusing on pure, site-driven Syrah. Sortilège, sourced from steep granite slopes, is a textbook northern Rhône red—layered, aromatic, and beautifully structured. The 2019 vintage, with its ripe fruit and lifted acidity, brings out the best of this rugged terroir.
Blackberry, cassis, and violet jump out first, followed by cracked black pepper, smoked meat, and a touch of graphite. The tannins are firm but refined, giving it both power and drinkability. Decant now for a fuller expression, or let it evolve over the next decade. A perfect match for grilled lamb, duck, or anything with a bit of char and spice. Northern Rhône Syrah at its most classic.
