Real Northern Rhone Syrah for the price of a weeknight pour. After splitting from his family's renowned Cote-Rotie domaine in 2013, Jean-Luc Jamet has been turning out this Cotes-du-Rhone from younger vines on the clay-and-schist slopes that ring the great appellation. The 2017 was a warm, dry, ripe vintage, giving the wine plenty of dark-fruited generosity. The youngest of the trio here, it still has fruit to spare while showing the first signs of savory maturity. Drink now through the next two or three years.

More about Jean-Luc Jamet

The Jamet name means Côte-Rôtie, and Jean-Luc splits from his brother's traditionalism by using less whole-bunch fermentation—about 30%—to emphasize floral elements and vitality. Eight hectares of mixed granite, schist, and sand soils high above Ampuis yield Côte-Rôties that feel fresh and alive.
