A magnum of Meursault from a grower who deserves a far bigger reputation than he has. Jean-Philippe Fichet farms tiny old-vine parcels and aims for purity above all; Tessons is his broadest, most complete village lieu-dit, the one with weight behind the tension. The 2018 growing season was hot and generous in Burgundy, giving whites of real ripeness and flesh — in Fichet's hands that becomes richness that never loses its shape. Expect ripe orchard fruit and hazelnut, citrus oil, and a saline finish, with bottle age smoothing everything into place. Magnums evolve more slowly and pour for a crowd, which makes this a bottle for six people who'll actually notice what they're drinking.

"This is both firmly reduced and still displaying residual malolactic hints. Otherwise there is once again fine richness to the round and plump flavors that possess a bit more volume if much less evident minerality on the already beautifully complex finale. This is also relatively tightly wound and will need at least a few years to develop better depth but in time, this promising effort should be excellent." —Allen Meadows

"The 2018 Meursault Le Tesson has another very pretty and endearing bouquet with white flower mixed with orange pith and nectarine aromas, a hint of pop corn in the background. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, taut and linear. The saline finish conveys brightness and energy. This is another impressive 2018 from Fichet." —Neal Martin

More about Jean-Philippe Fichet

A tireless devotee of Meursault's terroir, Fichet works his vines from dawn to dusk with severe pruning and relentless focus. His Aligoté shatters the grape's reputation for anonymity—crystalline, focused, with the stoniness of serious Burgundy. This is proof that Aligoté, in the right hands, becomes a wine worth seeking out.

Perfect Pairings

Roast chicken, turkey, lobster, veal in cream sauce, or a cheese course of Comte and aged Gruyere.

Tasting Profile

Full bodied for Meursault, dry. Ripe orchard fruit, hazelnut and citrus oil with a saline mineral finish. Rich but shapely; the magnum slows it down.
