Les Vaucrains is considered one of the two finest Premier Crus in Nuits-Saint-Georges, alongside "Les Saint-Georges." The 6.2-hectare site sits on the steep upper slope of the Côte d'Or, just below the escarpment where vineyard becomes forest. Its position at the hilltop means rocky, calcareous soil due to erosion—free-draining conditions producing concentrated berries, while small amounts of clay contribute weight. Jerome Chezeaux's non-interventionist approach includes cold maceration, three-week cuvaison, natural fermentation, and 30% new oak. The wines are known for their freshness, minerality, and exceptional aging potential—the most structured expression in the Chezeaux lineup. The 2022 vintage brought record heat but successful balance, with abundant color, flavor, and vibrancy. Delicate tannins make these wines approachable young, though they possess the structure for extended cellaring. Concentrated Nuits with Pinot's innate silkiness intact.

What importer Rosenthal Wine Merchant has to say about this wine...

Nuits-Saint-Georges famously possesses no grand cru vineyards, but Les Vaucrains is widely considered one in all but name. Always the most complete of Chezeaux’s premier crus, Vaucrains rumbles with tension—an authoritative wine that exudes an impression of depth and solidity. Here, the fruit, mineral, and savory elements bind together more tightly, more seamlessly. Jérôme owns just over a quarter-hectare of east-facing vines in Vaucrains, and his conservative oak regimen—never more than one-third of the barrels are new—highlights the power of the terroir itself.
