J.K. Carriere was founded by Jim Prosser in 1999 after training at Domaine Georges Roumier in Burgundy—meaning this Oregon winery speaks red wine with an accent that is distinctly Burgundian. The Antoinette Pinot Noir comes from St. Dolores Estate on Parrett Mountain (volcanic Jory soils, organic farming, Chehalem Mountains AVA), where dried flowers and spiced citrus meet crushed stones and silk. This is Pinot Noir as conversation between terroir and tradition—a wine that tastes like it knows exactly where it comes from.

"The 2022 Pinot Noir Antoinette is spicy, revealing a white pepper tinge to its blue and purple florals as dusty black cherries come to the foreground. Cool-toned and lifted in feel, this washes across the palate with violet-laced wild berry fruits as a note of blood orange adds lovely contrast toward the close. Inner rose tones and incense hover over a bed of fine-grained tannins and a blackberry concentration as this finishes dramatically long and wonderfully refined. Wow." —Eric Guido

More about J.K. Carriere

Jim Prosser has been making lean, age-worthy Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley since 1999, when most Oregon producers were still chasing ripe fruit. The label features a wasp—a family joke rooted in a severe allergy—and the wines are built for the cellar, showing restraint and line where others reach for extraction.

Flatiron's Take

From the Importer

What Polaner Selections has to say about this wine:

VarietalsPinot NoirVineyardTemperance Hill’s (30-year-old) late-harvested and cooler high-elevation vines deliver old vine complexity with fresh acidity. The five best barrels became this wine. The vines are from the front block east, the oldest at Temperance, and their massive root systems go deep to deliver both high flavor and nuance to the limited yield.SoilAncient, exposed basalt soilsVinificationSmall-lot wild yeast fermentationsAging100% barrel aged for 19 months in French oak barrels (one new, three neutral). Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Duck breast or mushroom pot pie; the wine’s silky tannins and dried-flower aromatics frame rich, earthy food perfectly.
