Julien Crinquand is one of the most exciting young names in the Jura — he launched his estate in 2019 in Les Arsures (Arbois) using family vineyards already farmed organically since 2016. He trained with Fabrice Dodane at Domaine de St Pierre, and his approach is purist: native yeasts, minimal SO2, hands largely off. The 'Les Canons du Jean' series is named for his grandfather Jean (and 'canons' is French vigneron slang for bottles). The D'Jopin is his ouillé (topped-up, oxidatively guarded) Chardonnay — Jura purity at its most direct. Linear, mineral, electric, with the chalky bite the appellation does so well. A 2023 to drink now or over the next few years while the Crinquand fan club is still relatively quiet.
