Laherte Freres, Champagne Extra Brut Rose de Meunier (base 2022), NV

Laherte Frères produces Champagne that defies category—this Rosé de Meunier, from biodynamic vines and a unique winemaking method, proves why Pinot Meunier deserves the respect it rarely receives. The blend combines 30% skin-contact Meunier for color and texture, 10% still red wine for depth, and 60% white-pressed Meunier for brightness, while 80% of the base wine ages in oak for roundness. The result is a pink Champagne of rare complexity: structured, layered, yet elegant and food-friendly. From the 7th-generation Aurélien Laherte (since 2005), this is Champagne made with conviction, not formula.

Antonio Galloni

91 points

"The NV Extra Brut Rosé de Meunier is bright, punchy and super-expressive, with notes of cranberry, blood orange, mint, crushed rocks and dried flowers. Deceptive in its mid-weight feel, the Rosé de Meunier packs a pretty serious punch. The blend is 60% Meunier (white pressed), 30% Meunier with maceration and 10% still red Meunier." —Antonio Galloni

Robert Parker

90 points

"Disgorged earlier this year, the NV Extra-Brut Rosé de Meunier bursts with aromas of red berries, peonies, licorice and spices. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, it's layered and vinous, with a ripe core of fruit and brisk girdling acids. As usual, it's a blend of 60% direct pressed Pinot Meunier, 30% macerated Pinot Meunier and 10% red Pinot Meunier." —William Kelley

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
