Xavier Weisskopf is one of the Loire's most thrilling Chenin talents, and this is your low-stakes entry into his world. He studied in Chablis and Beaune and put in four years at Saint Cosme in Gigondas before buying Le Rocher des Violettes in Montlouis-sur-Loire in 2005, where he farms organically certified vines, many planted before 1940. This is a dry Chenin Blanc from those old vines, made with the same purity and precision he brings to his bottlings. Drink it now, well chilled, or hold a year or two.

More about Le Rocher des Violettes (Xavier Weisskopf)

Xavier Weisskopf founded this organic Montlouis domaine in 2005 after studying in Chablis and Beaune. His Chenin Blancs ferment naturally in old oak, age in troglodytic caves carved in local stone, and emerge with the subtle, muscular mineral character that define great Loire terroir.

Loire Valley Wines

The Loire Valley is France’s greatest source of value for anyone looking for elegant, terroir-driven wines. Our collection celebrates the region’s great diversity, with the mineral-driven whites of Muscadet and Sancerre, the beautiful Chenin Blancs and Cabernet Francs from villages like Vouvray and Chinon, and natural wines from everywhere in the region. Sometimes wonderfully fresh and gulpable, sometimes serious and age-worthy, the prices are always very reasonable.
