Cantemerle is a Fifth Growth in the southern Haut-Medoc, prized for the elegance its deep gravel soils bring to Cabernet. Les Allees de Cantemerle is the estate's second wine, drawn largely from younger vines and made in the same spirit but ready to drink years sooner. The 2018 is a generous, ripe vintage, offering cassis, cedar, and graphite over polished tannins. This is a half-bottle in ex-negociant condition, drinking well now and ideal for a Bordeaux fix without the wait.

Cantemerle is a Fifth Growth in the 1855 classification, in the Haut-Médoc commune of Macau, just south of the Margaux appellation. And like a classic, mature Margaux, Cantemerle develops a wonderfully complex, spicy bouquet with age: tobacco, smoke and mineral-laced cherry fill the nose before you even get close to the glass. Elegant, perfumed claret and one of the Médoc's better values.
