Lieu Dit is a collaboration between Eric Railsback and Justin Willett, focused on Loire varieties grown in Santa Barbara County. Their Chenin Blanc comes from sandy, well-drained soils in the Santa Ynez Valley and is vinified with native yeasts and no heavy oak, keeping things fresh, textural, and true to grape and place.

The 2023 vintage shows bright pear, yellow apple, lemon peel, and a touch of chamomile, with saline minerality and a gentle waxy note that nods to its Loire cousins. The palate is clean and energetic, with enough texture to handle food but enough zip to drink on its own.

Whether you're pairing it with seafood, goat cheese, or just sipping solo, Lieu Dit Chenin Blanc 2023 offers a refreshing, honest, and highly drinkable snapshot of California's cooler-climate white wine potential.

"The 2023 Chenin Blanc clearly displays the radiant, focused nature of the vintage, leading with an incisive nose of lemon curd and crushed stones bolstered by exotic, waxy and floral accents. The palate is similarly spry and tensile yet displays a lovely creamy breadth that supports the bright, airy finish." —Matthew Luczy

More about Lieu Dit

Eric Railsback and Justin Willett met in Santa Barbara and spent years obsessing over Loire Valley wines before deciding to grow them themselves. Lieu Dit has quietly become one of the best low-intervention producers on the Central Coast, focusing on Sauvignon Blanc and the odd gem of Chenin Blanc, Melon de Bourgogne, or Cabernet Franc. Fresh, elegant, and deeply thought-through.

Tasting Profile

Medium-bodied white with stone fruit and citrus notes, bright acidity, mineral-driven palate, dry crisp finish with honey undertones.

Lieu Dit is a winery based in Lompoc, California making delicious local wines from only indigenous Loire varietals. The varied micro-climates and marine based soils of Santa Barbara County are ideally suited to this set of grapes and creates wines that have that definitive California fruit character while retaining the freshness and acidity of their French counterparts.
