Robert Parker

95 points

"This new submission from Lisini, the 2021 Brunello di Montalcino Poggio Severo, shows a rich and velvety approach with dark fruit, blackberry and earthy notes layered with sweet tones from time spent in oak. The wine has a broad and generous profile thanks to well-draining sandstone soils, though the tannins show some firmness at this stage and will benefit from additional bottle age to soften and integrate. Sourced from the estate’s highest vineyards at 510 meters above sea level, this bottling captures a cooler, more structured side of the vintage. Only 3,000 bottles were produced. Give it time." —Monica Larner

Jancis Robinson

17.5 points

"Deep, dark ruby with orange tinges. Brooding, deep and a little ethereal right now. Complex but slow to open up. Lush, sour-cherry fruit with firm, compact tannins underneath. Real power and composed at the same time. In need of much more age and deserving it. Very long and dramatic."

"The latest addition to Lisini's range comes from a selection of two vineyards at over 500 metres above sea level. Its intense blood orange, blueberry and cherry fruitiness, fresh hints of Mediterranean scrub and mint, impressive depth, and incisive but well-integrated tannins, are distinctive. Precise and balanced with a long and sapid finish."

"Aromas of blue flower, Mediterranean brush, dark spice and baked plum mingle with an earthy whiff of new leather and a balsamic note of menthol on the fragrant Lisini 2021 Brunello Poggio Severo. Showing an earthy finesse and offering layers of flavor, the smooth, full-bodied palate features the same plum note as the nose as well as bitter orange rind, licorice and dark chocolate. Tightly woven, velvety tannins provide support. Drink 2028–2036." —Kerin O'Keefe
