Cantine Lonardo is one of those domaines that have been growing grapes—always organically—for generations, but only started bottling in recent times (1998). They continue to work organically and use traditional practices in the winery. To lovers of traditional Barolo, this will sound familiar: a very long maceration (beyond two months!), aging strictly in large neutral barrels, and wines of depth, power, structure, and soulfulness. The grapes are picked late and yet the alcohols are modest, resulting in wonderfully balanced wines.
