Viognier rarely gets the orange-wine treatment, which is exactly what makes this one a fun find. Loop de Loop is a small, family-run Pacific Northwest project founded by Julia Bailey, and the Wallflower Project is its playful side label built around approachable, characterful wines. Here Viognier is fermented on its skins, turning an aromatic white grape amber and trading some of its usual peachy plushness for a tannic backbone and texture. The result keeps Viognier's signature floral lift but wraps it in the savory grip of skin contact, unfined and unfiltered.

From the dramatic, stunning, and cool Columbia Gorge region that separates Oregon and Washington, Loop de Loop Wallflower Project is the perfect way to dip your toes (or cannonball, if that's more your style) into chillable reds.

Julia Bailey and Scott Gulstine were inspired by chats with Mimi Casteel and other regenerative agriculture experts to convert their 17 acres on the Columbia River into a regenerative wine ecosystem (9 acres planted, 8 devoted to woodland). This tiny family project has been making the kind of insanely food-friendly, vibrant low-intervention wines we love the most.
