Eight generations of Beaujolais mastery from Morgon's most celebrated hillside. The Côte du Py rises on ancient iron-rich soils—producing wines of exceptional depth and structure. Louis-Claude Desvignes achieved organic certification in 2023 and ages this cuvée entirely in concrete egg-shaped vats for pure fruit expression. The result is profound, mineral-driven Gamay with graphite notes and remarkable aging potential. This is serious Beaujolais.

"The 2024 Morgon Côte du Py, raised entirely in concrete eggs, has a lovely bouquet with real energy and mineral-rich red fruit that blossoms in the glass. The palate is beautifully balanced with filigree tannins, a killer line of acidity, plenty of tension and a lively, persistent finish. This is a very classy offering from a challenging growing season." —Neal Martin

More about Louis-Claude Desvignes

Louis-Claude Desvignes embodied Beaujolais' spirit: picking later than his neighbors, working with semi-carbonic fermentation, making wines that age like Pinot Noir. His children now run the eighth-generation domaine, continuing his legacy with organic farming and the same proven methods.

Flatiron's Take

From the Importer

What Bowler Wine has to say about this wine:

100% Gamay. From 2.2 hectares of parcels on the Côte du Py, which is famous for its roche pourrie or "rotten rock" of manganese-rich, decomposed schist and its structured, long-lived wines. The vines are around 70 years old and have a cooler NE exposure at the top of the hill. They are certified-organic and harvested by hand. Generally around half of the bunches are left whole with the other half destemmed and put together into closed concrete vats for a partly carbonic fermentation; maceration is 13-14 days with a submerged cap and no punchdowns. A very small amount of sulfur is added after malo and sometimes at bottling. The Côte du Py is aged in concrete tanks for 10 months and bottled with a light, non-sterile filtration.
