A Grand Cru that thrives on adversity. The 2010 season threw everything at Burgundy—spring frosts, rain, hail, and a cool, damp summer—but a warm September rescued the surviving crop, concentrating flavors in tiny, thick-skinned berries. In that crucible, Jadot's Bonnes-Mares emerged with pure, crystalline Pinot Noir character: layers of red and black cherry, woodsmoke, fresh herbs, and raw cocoa, threaded with vibrant acidity that keeps the wine taut and alive. Founded in 1859, Maison Louis Jadot has long held prime parcels across the Côte d'Or, and their strip of steep Bonnes-Mares hillside, straddling multiple soil types in Chambolle-Musigny, yields a wine of uncommon depth. After extended maceration and eighteen to twenty months in oak, the tannins land supple and fine-grained, framing cranberry and red-currant fruit that will continue to unfold for years. This is cool-climate Burgundy at its most transparent—less opulent than the celebrated 2009, but arguably more precise.

Professional Reviews

"A complex, pure and beautifully layered extract of red berry fruit, particularly raspberry nose mixes with notes of stone, earth and a hint of the sauvage. The rich and equally pure tautly muscular flavors exude a fine minerality and I especially like the sense of underlying tension as it imparts energy to the balanced, focused and strikingly long finish. When viewed through the lens of a typical Bonnes Mares, this comes across as a refined effort, which is undoubtedly because of the very fine grain of the supporting tannins."

"The 2010 Bonnes-Mares bursts onto the palate with dark cherries, mint, flowers and graphite. This is another picture-perfect, representative wine that captures the essence of the white soils in this part of Bonnes Mares. There is more than enough fruit to fill out the wine's broad shoulders and balance the big tannins. A clean vein of minerality gives the wine its center and focus. A final blast of blue and black fruit stains the palate on the finish." -Antonio Galloni

"The 2010 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is much bolder and more extravagant on the nose than the Amoureuses with potent mulberry, raspberry and a hint of tomato vine. The tannins are very supple on the palate, the acidity well-judged with raspberry, red currant and cranberry notes. It builds in the mouth, the tannins taking over to manifest a more serious Bonnes-Mares than the nose implies. This is worth cellaring for at least a decade. Drink 2022-2030." -Neal Martin

"From the Chambolle Musigny side. Dark ruby. Solid and intriguing but nervy nose. So much cherry fruit! Explosive! Like fruit compote! Rich and complete and already gorgeous. Pure pleasure! Reverberant. The flavours of a Germanic breakfast somehow – smoked meat? And dark fruit flavours. Great precision."

"The Bonnes Mares (Domaine Jadot) is a "wow" wine, ripe, fresh and spicy; beautiful expression of violet, black cherry, black currant fruit, rich, sumptuous and expressive, structured and long."
