Marqués de Tomares is a historic Rioja estate with family grape-growing roots dating to 1886 and a winery founded by Don Román Montaña in 1910. For decades, Tomares sold their wines exclusively through elite private socios clubs and Spain's top restaurants, never releasing to retailers — a practice more reminiscent of old Vega Sicilia than a commercial winery. The founding family's grandchildren still run the estate today, and still farm vines that their grandfather planted over a century ago. This Reserva is Rioja in the tradition of López de Heredia: long barrel aging, old-vine Tempranillo, structure built for the table and the long haul. A remarkable value for what's in the bottle.
