Bottled early in the spring after harvest, while it still has all of its crunch. This is Jeff Coutelou's Grenache noir from Puimisson, a Languedoc village outside Beziers where the estate has been certified organic since 1987 and where Jeff has planted trees, olives, figs and almonds among the vines, cutting the planted area to about 13 hectares of a 20-hectare property. Grenache in the south usually means weight; here it means red fruit, freshness and a low-tannin, gulpable frame. It is made in the natural idiom Coutelou has worked in for decades, with as few additions as possible. Give it twenty minutes in the fridge and pour it with lunch.
