This is a Bourgogne rouge from one of Meursault's best domaines, made from vines planted in 1966. Vines that old are rare at the regional level, so this is an easy way into a serious house. Five domaines carry the Bouzereau name, and this is the one most people consider the best (and the one we'd point you to). Michel built up the holdings, and his son Jean-Baptiste has run the domaine since 1999. He's a humble, soft-spoken winemaker who lets the wines speak for themselves. The domaine's Bourgogne Pinot Noir comes from a tiny 0.33-hectare parcel on clay-limestone. The estate has farmed organically since 2005 and has moved steadily toward biodynamics, without bothering to get certified. The grapes are picked by hand, destemmed and fermented with native yeasts. The wine is aged in oak barrels and bottled unfined and unfiltered with very little sulfur.

More about Michel Bouzereau

Seven generations of Meursault winemaking converge in Michel Bouzereau's estate. He was president of the Burgundy Growers Union and a fierce traditionalist. His son Jean-Baptiste now steers the ship from their new winery (built 2009), commanding some of the Côte de Beaune's top parcels. This family's credentials aren't just credentials—they're a philosophy.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Roast chicken with thyme and garlic; duck breast with a cherry sauce; oeufs en meurette; mushroom risotto; jambon persillé; seared salmon with lentils.

Tasting Profile

Expect the classic Côte de Beaune Bourgogne rouge profile: red cherry and raspberry, a touch of forest floor and gentle spice from barrel ageing. Typically light to medium-bodied, with fresh acidity and fine, soft tannins, while destemming keeps the fruit pure and bright. The finish is usually dry and savoury: textbook red Burgundy in an easy-drinking register.
