This is Meursault Premier Cru from the Bouzereau domaine most people rank as the best of the five that carry the family name, and one of the top houses in the village. The domaine's Charmes Dessus holding is just over half a hectare of clay and magnesian limestone, planted in 1960, 1978 and 1997, so the oldest vines are well past sixty and give the wine real depth. Jean-Baptiste Bouzereau took over from his father Michel in 1999. He has farmed organically since 2005 and has spent the last decade moving toward biodynamics, without bothering to get certified. He doesn't intervene much in the cellar either. The juice goes into barrel with its fine lees and no sulfur, ferments on native yeasts and stays on those lees until the next harvest. It's then bottled unfined and unfiltered with very little SO2. If you want to see what a soft-spoken, seven-generation Meursault family does with a Premier Cru, this is the bottle to try.

"The 2024 Meursault Les Charmes-Dessus 1er Cru has a delineated, precise nose that does not wish to show off. Quite backward at first but then it gradually unveils scents of crushed stone, hazelnut and litchi. The palate is well balanced with a keen line of acidity, hints of orange pith and peach skin, gently fanning out towards the finish with a conspicuous spiciness on the aftertaste. Promising." —Neal Martin

More about Michel Bouzereau

Seven generations of Meursault winemaking converge in Michel Bouzereau's estate. He was president of the Burgundy Growers Union and a fierce traditionalist. His son Jean-Baptiste now steers the ship from their new winery (built 2009), commanding some of the Côte de Beaune's top parcels. This family's credentials aren't just credentials—they're a philosophy.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Roast chicken with morels and cream; butter-poached lobster; turbot or halibut with beurre blanc; scallops seared in brown butter; aged Comté or Beaufort.

Tasting Profile

Expect the generous, rounded side of Meursault: ripe orchard fruit, lemon and toasted hazelnut, with a creamy texture from long ageing on its lees in barrel. Fresh acidity and a chalky, mineral line typically keep it in balance, and the finish is long and dry. Think classic white Burgundy with extra depth and polish.
