Les Tessons is village Meursault with the details you'd expect from a grander label: a single named vineyard, half a hectare of Chardonnay, and some of the vines planted back in 1958. The domaine's vines here grow in clay and limestone with patches of red earth and what the French call "roche à fleur," bedrock that comes up close to the surface. The rest of the parcel went in in 1989. Old vines on thin soil over rock is exactly what Meursault lovers look for, and it's rare to find it this clearly spelled out at village level. Michel Bouzereau is a seven-generation Meursault family that has farmed organically since 2005 and has spent the last decade moving toward biodynamics, without bothering to get certified. The cellar is just as hands-off. The juice goes into barrel with its fine lees and no sulfur, then ferments on native yeasts and rests on the lees until the next harvest. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered, timed to the lunar cycle.

"Moderate reduction overshadows the fruit today. More interesting are the super-sleek, vibrant and bright middle weight flavors that possess both good power and minerality where the latter adds a sense of lift to the bitter zest-inflected finale that displays outstanding length for a villages-level wine. This could use better depth so at least mid-term cellaring is recommended. In a word, excellent." —Allen Meadows

"The 2024 Meursault Les Tessons is often my favourite of Bouzereau's Village Crus and this year is no different. This has impressive complexity on the nose with walnut and brioche scents unfolding in the glass - all very seductive. The palate is fresh on the entry with a fine bead of acidity, quite sapid in style, focused and energetic, fanning out like a Premier Cru on the finish. Superb." —Neal Martin

More about Michel Bouzereau

Seven generations of Meursault winemaking converge in Michel Bouzereau's estate. He was president of the Burgundy Growers Union and a fierce traditionalist. His son Jean-Baptiste now steers the ship from their new winery (built 2009), commanding some of the Côte de Beaune's top parcels. This family's credentials aren't just credentials—they're a philosophy.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Roast chicken with morels and cream; lobster or scallops in beurre blanc; sole meunière; veal blanquette; a wedge of aged Comté.

Tasting Profile

Expect the classic Meursault profile: ripe lemon, yellow apple and pear, with the hazelnut and brioche notes that barrel fermentation and long lees ageing typically bring. Count on a rounded, creamy mid-palate held in check by fresh acidity and a stony, limestone-driven edge, finishing dry and long.
