Just under half a hectare of Meursault Perrières 1er Cru, some of it planted back in 1939: this is a small, serious holding from a family name so rooted in the village that five domaines now carry it. The domaine's Perrières vines grow in very stony clay-limestone laced with decomposing marl, the kind of ground that makes Burgundy fans go looking for this vineyard name. Jean-Baptiste Bouzereau took over from his father Michel in 1999. He has farmed organically since 2005 and has moved toward biodynamics over the past decade, without bothering to get certified. His cellar work is just as hands-off: the whites ferment on native yeasts, go into barrel with their fine lees and no sulfur, and rest on those lees until the next harvest. They're bottled unfined and unfiltered, timed to the lunar cycle. Jean-Baptiste is a soft-spoken winemaker who lets the wines do the talking, which makes this a quietly confident way into one of Meursault's great names. The domaine recommends serving it at 12–14°C and drinking it within 12–15 years.

"Here too there is a whiff of wood treatment in evidence on the nose of white peach, citrus confit and Granny Smith apple and mineral reduction. The medium weight flavors are not quite as concentrated but they're finer still with both a lovely texture and excellent punch that carries over to the clean, bone-dry and balanced finale that is akin to sucking on a small pebble. I would add that this youthfully austere effort is markedly compact and a wine that's going to need at least moderate patience. This too is excellent." —Allen Meadows

"The 2024 Meursault Perrières 1er Cru has a deep nose with fresh pear and citrus fruit but there is more mineralité coiled up in this cuvée compared to the Les Charmes-Dessus or Genevrières. The palate is very well balanced, fine tension, quite minerally with wet stone and flinty notes emerging towards the penetrating finish. Excellent." —Neal Martin

More about Michel Bouzereau

Seven generations of Meursault winemaking converge in Michel Bouzereau's estate. He was president of the Burgundy Growers Union and a fierce traditionalist. His son Jean-Baptiste now steers the ship from their new winery (built 2009), commanding some of the Côte de Beaune's top parcels. This family's credentials aren't just credentials—they're a philosophy.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Bresse chicken roasted with morels and cream; butter-poached lobster; turbot with beurre blanc; scallops seared in brown butter; aged Comté.

Tasting Profile

Expect the classic Perrières profile: lemon, white peach and white flowers over a stony, flinty minerality, with the hazelnut notes and creamy texture that barrel fermentation and a long rest on the lees bring. Typically a tauter, more mineral Meursault than the rich, buttery stereotype, with bright, firm acidity and a long, saline, dry finish built to age.
