Michel Niellon is one of the most quietly revered names in Chassagne-Montrachet — a small, family-run domaine whose wines have always been the antithesis of flash. Three generations now work side by side: Michel, his son-in-law Michaël Coutoux (since 1991), and grandson Matthieu Bresson. The village Chassagne is sourced from six parcels scattered around the commune and sees only a touch of new oak, letting the limestone do the talking. The 2022 vintage was warm but balanced — and in Niellon's hands that means a wine of definition and precision: dried yellow flowers, citrus, integrated oak. A textbook entry into one of Chassagne's most classical addresses.

Antonio Galloni

88 points

"The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge has a pretty nose: raspberry, cranberry, florals and a slight pastille-like tincture. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, a bit powdery in texture, with a touch of sour cherry and black pepper on the finish. Fine." —Neal Martin

Jancis Robinson

17 points

"Ripe, creamy citrus with a suggestion of lees in a mealy richness. Generous fruit, chalky texture and a long, fresh finish. Deep and long, mouth-watering finish. Impressive village-level wine."

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Roast chicken with lemon and tarragon, sole meunière, scallops with brown butter, or a wedge of aged Comté. Equally at home with creamy mushroom risotto, lobster bisque, or a simple cheese course.

Tasting Profile

Lifted aromas of dried yellow flowers, citrus zest, and white peach over discreet oak. Medium-bodied and chiseled — concentrated lemon-curd fruit, a saline mineral backbone, and the precise, mouthwatering finish that defines great Chassagne village.
