Moccagatta, a family estate in Barbaresco, produces Bric Balin from a single south-facing cru near the winery. The site’s calcareous clay soils yield concentrated, structured Nebbiolo.

The 2020 was fermented in stainless steel and aged in French oak barriques for refinement. It is the flagship wine of Moccagatta, showcasing power and elegance in equal measure.

Antonio Galloni

92 points

"The 2020 Barbaresco Bric Balin is powerful and deep, as all these wines are, but also offers a measure of balance. Red cherry, red plum, espresso, menthol, licorice and mocha lend nuance to this decidedly potent, explosive Barbaresco. Bright floral top notes on the finish help soften the impact of the formidable tannins." —Antonio Galloni

Jancis Robinson

"Barbaresco. Impressively dark ruby. Concentrated dark fruit with minty oak on the nose. Smooth cherry fruit with touches of vanilla from the oak and long, powdery tannins. Quite a bit of acidity, too, adding freshness."

More about Moccagatta

Moccagatta's been in the Langhe foothills since the 1800s. Sergio Minuto and his daughter Martina now make three crus of Barbaresco—Bric Balin, Cole, and Basarin—each one racy, bold, capturing its specific vineyard. This is a family that knows one place deeply and refuses to wander.
