Mommessin is an old Burgundian house with real pedigree, the longtime sole owner of the fabled Clos de Tart monopole. Charmes-Chambertin is the perfumed, silky side of Gevrey, all red fruit and florals where its neighbor Chambertin flexes muscle. Time has folded in the tertiary layers: forest floor, dried rose, sweet earth. If you've never tasted mature grand cru Burgundy, this is a graceful, ready-to-drink invitation.
