Witness Tree is one of Oregon’s most distinctive Chardonnay sites—high elevation, volcanic soils, and the wind-swept exposure that defines the Eola–Amity Hills. Winemaker Seth Morgen Long approaches it with a Burgundian mindset: whole-cluster pressing, ambient fermentations, and élevage in mostly used French oak, letting site and season drive the narrative.

In 2022, the wine is electric. It opens with cool citrus, pear skin, and subtle florals, but it’s the structure that defines it—tight, chalky, and deeply mineral, with just enough leesy breadth to give it shape. There’s no overt oak, no gloss—just clarity, balance, and a sense of restraint that rewards slow drinking and serious food.

It’s a bottle that belongs on the table next to top Chablis or Puligny—sophisticated, site-driven, and unmistakably Northwest. Drink now for its cut or cellar for 5–7 years to watch the edges soften and deepen.

More about Morgen Long

Seth Morgen Long is the first (and only) Oregon winemaker completely devoted to Willamette Valley Chardonnay. After 15 years in restaurants and a stint at Domaine de Montille in Burgundy, he started in 2014 buying small lots from old-school farmers. His focus on balance, acidity, and fruit development is monastic. The wine shows it.
