From the high elevations of the Santa Cruz Mountains, Mount Eden Vineyards presents a Chardonnay that is both rich and refined. The 2013 Estate Chardonnay is a stunning example of this unique terroir, where the cool climate and limestone-rich soils combine to produce a wine of remarkable depth and complexity.

On the nose, the wine opens with layers of ripe citrus, green apple, and a touch of ripe pear, all beautifully complemented by notes of toasted oak and vanilla. The palate is broad and creamy, with a silky texture that is balanced by a bright, zesty acidity. The wine’s mineral backbone adds a refreshing edge, and the finish lingers with subtle nutty flavors and a hint of spice, showing the finesse that comes with aging.

This Chardonnay is a perfect match for rich seafood dishes, roasted chicken, or a creamy pasta. With its combination of fruit, oak, and minerality, the 2013 Mount Eden Chardonnay is a wine that rewards both immediate enjoyment and further aging, allowing its complexity to evolve even more in the bottle.

Antonio Galloni

"The 2013 Chardonnay is especially ripe and voluptuous in this vintage because of the drought, almost unusually so. Yellow peach, candied orange peel and pineapple are front and center. The good news with the 2013 is that it will drink well early, but the bad news - if it can be called that - is that the wine is a bit on the overt side. Voluptuous, racy and oily, the 2013 will drink well with minimal cellaring. The 2013 finishes with a real sense of weight and textural richness that only adds to its considerable appeal." —Vinous

Robert Parker

"Pure silk on the palate, the 2013 Chardonnay Estate offers textbook notes of buttered apples, brioche, toasted bread and hints of minerality to go with medium to full-bodied richness, beautiful purity of fruit, no hard edges and impeccable balance. It's beautiful today, but should evolve gracefully for at least 5-6 years." —Robert Parker

Decanter

94 points

"This is from a high altitude vineyard in the Santa Cruz Valley and is made from a single Chardonnay clone. Fermented and matured in French oak, this is only just starting to unfold. The lifted, evolved nose sends notes of heady, dried citrus zest against a sonorous backdrop of earthiness. Bit by bit, more fruit shows: Japanese pear and Golden Delicious apple are cloaked in a subtle, nutty haze of smoky oak. This has come together beautifully and is ready to drink, but it will stay on its elegant plateau for quite a while yet."

Wine Spectator

93 points

"Very distinctive, with a unique profile of flinty limestone, minerally citrus, green pear, honeydew and honeysuckle flavors, enlivened by zesty acidity, floral scents and a long, mouthwatering aftertaste that keeps repeating the core themes. Has an excellent track record for aging."

Wine Enthusiast

95 points

"One of the greatest Chardonnays made in California each vintage, this bottling blends riper elements of yellow peach and honey with the tension of tangerine rind and pink-grapefruit pith on the nose. The palate is very energetic and tangy, with orange peels, crushed sea shells and a touch of salt hanging from an extremely well-chiseled structure."

More about Mount Eden Vineyards

Mount Eden sits 2,000 feet above Silicon Valley on austere Franciscan shale—no irrigation, pure minerality, pure exposure. They've been making estate Pinot and Chardonnay longer than anyone else in California. Jeffrey Patterson, winemaker since 1981, understands that the mountain's job is to make the grapes struggle. The wine shows that struggle beautifully.
