Crafted from the high-altitude estate vineyards of Mount Eden in the Santa Cruz Mountains, the 2018 Pinot Noir showcases the region’s unique terroir and ideal growing conditions. Known for its cool climate and rugged, mountainous terrain, this vineyard produces Pinot Noir with both power and finesse, making it one of the most revered sources for this varietal in California.

The 2018 vintage opens with aromas of ripe red berries—cherry, raspberry—intertwined with subtle earthy undertones of forest floor, mushroom, and a touch of spice. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with velvety tannins and vibrant acidity that provides balance and freshness. The wine’s minerality adds depth and complexity, while the smooth texture enhances its elegance. The finish is long and lingering, with notes of red fruit, spice, and a touch of earthiness that reflect the unique terroir of the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Ideal for pairing with roasted meats, grilled salmon, or wild mushroom dishes, this Pinot Noir offers versatility and refinement. Whether enjoyed now or cellared for further development, the 2018 Mount Eden Vineyards Estate Pinot Noir Santa Cruz is a stunning expression of California Pinot Noir, combining the elegance of Burgundy with the distinct character of the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Antonio Galloni

95 points

"The 2018 Pinot Noir is gorgeous. Deep and super-expressive, the 2018 has so much to say. Hints of dried herbs, blood orange, rose petal, cinnamon and star anise complement a core of red cherry/plum fruit nicely. This stylish, elegant Pinot has a ton to offer. But it also needs time, as the stem component is a bit pronounced in the early going." —Vinous

Wine Enthusiast

93 points

"Black-plum, incense, black-cherry and root-beer aromas show on the nose of this bottling from a regional standard bearer. Sandalwood and mahogany flavors make for a woody palate, where the dark-plum and purple-flower flavors cling to a firm tension."

More about Mount Eden Vineyards

Mount Eden sits 2,000 feet above Silicon Valley on austere Franciscan shale—no irrigation, pure minerality, pure exposure. They've been making estate Pinot and Chardonnay longer than anyone else in California. Jeffrey Patterson, winemaker since 1981, understands that the mountain's job is to make the grapes struggle. The wine shows that struggle beautifully.
