Antonio Galloni

92 points

"The NV Brut Grand Cuvée is superb. Sourced from Buxeuil and Polisy in the Côte des Bar, the Grand Cuvée is a terrific expression of Pinot Noir. It is bright and focused, with wonderful depth, textural intensity and notes of dried pear, white flowers, and spice. There's gorgeous precision here. The 10 grams of dosage is not felt." —Antonio Galloni

Wine Spectator

91 points

"This well-cut Champagne is lacy in texture, carrying well-meshed flavors of white raspberry, verbena, pastry and honey. Focused, with a lightly juicy, minerally finish. Drink now through 2020."

More about Moutard

Founded in the 1600s, this house on the far southern edge of Champagne specializes in the production of Pinot Noir from an ideal terroir featuring a mix of clay and bands of kimmeridgian limestone.

The wines are vinified in a traditional manner and emerge from the cellars with lovely aromas of red fruit, supple texture and a long, lingering finish. Moutard puts out impressive values across the board.

Fermentation to a gravity of 1040 to preserve the fruit, followed by racking. Raffling: Bottled between April and May. Tasting Profile

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
