Andrea and Chris Mullineux's white estate blend, from the family farm that put a flag on the map. Roundstone Farm, acquired in 2014 on the southwestern slopes of the Kasteelberg in the Swartland, sits on deep schist bedrock — exactly the kind of bones that make South African Chenin Blanc sing. The Roundstone Blanc is a white blend of drought-resistant Mediterranean and South African heritage varieties (Macabeu, Chenin Blanc, Grenache Blanc, Clairette Blanche, Roussanne, Verdelho, Vermentino and Assyrtiko) from newer plantings at Roundstone that channels the rugged Swartland: orchard and stone fruit, dried herbs, a thread of fynbos and salt, a long mineral close. The Mullineuxs were among the first to argue (loudly, correctly) that Swartland Chenin belongs on lists alongside top white Burgundy and Loire Chenin, and this estate cuvée is proof of concept. Serious-but-easygoing white, gorgeous now, built to evolve.

Chris and Andrea Mullineux make minimal-intervention wines from old bush vines in the Swartland, focusing obsessively on single terroirs: granite, schist, limestone each getting their own bottling. No added sulfites (except a whisper at bottling), no fining, no filtering. The result is Chenin with spine and soul—proof that the Cape's best expression still has room to grow.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Beautiful with grilled white fish, roast chicken with lemon, Cape Malay curries, seared scallops, soft and washed-rind cheeses, or roast pork. A natural with anything off the grill in late summer.

Tasting Profile

Quince and yellow apple, white peach, dried fennel and fynbos herbs, with a salty, schist-driven mineral lift. Bright acidity holds the texture taut; the finish is long, dry and gently waxy.
