Antonio Galloni

95 points

"The 2024 Grüner Veltliner Privat Ried Pellingen comes from a mica-schist site in Imbach facing south. It was fermented in a used, large acacia barrel. A touch of creaminess is hinted at on the shy nose, which also shows the freshness of a spring meadow with white flowers. Slightly salty yeast appears as well. The palate reveals a gorgeous, spicy core of white pepper. All savor is packed in gentle creaminess, most enticing and elongated on the smooth yet svelte palate." —Anne Krebiehl, MW

Decanter

90 points

"Smoky stone fruit nose with distinctive sage and thyme flecks and a plump fleshy palate pervaded by ripe pear acidity."

More about Nigl

Great Grüner Veltliner on the slopes of the Kremstal. Martin Nigl has farmed these terraces sustainably for decades—no herbicides, no sulfites except minimal amounts at bottling—letting the grapes and their stony-loess soils speak. His Freiheit and Gärtling bottlings show ripeness and energy without flashiness. A Nigl is a daily drinker that keeps rewarding you.
