What is this wine?
Parusso’s Barolo Bussia 2018 is a single-cru Nebbiolo from one of the most esteemed vineyards in Monforte d’Alba. The Parusso family, led by Marco and Tiziana Parusso, farms organically and works with meticulous attention to vineyard health and gentle cellar practices. Fruit from the Bussia vineyard—rich in calcareous marl and sandstone—is fermented with native yeasts and a portion of whole clusters, then aged in small oak barrels to develop texture and aromatic complexity.

Why get this wine?
Parusso is known for producing expressive, modern-leaning Barolo that retains a deep sense of place. The 2018 vintage showcases finesse over sheer power: elegant fruit, polished tannins, and lifted aromatics, perfectly reflecting Bussia’s combination of structure and grace. This is a superb single-vineyard Barolo from a producer consistently praised for his innovation and precision.

What does this wine taste like?
Aromas of red cherry, rose, and spice lead to a supple palate with notes of plum, licorice, and tobacco. Fine-grained tannins frame the wine, finishing long and savory with hints of truffle and mineral earth.

When should you drink this wine?
Best from 2025–2038. Decant for 1–2 hours if drinking young. Excellent with braised meats, truffle dishes, or aged cheeses.

"The 2018 Barolo Bussia is a blend of Rocche and Munie. Pliant and racy in the glass, the 2018 is laced with dark fruit, mocha, sweet spice and licorice. Dried rose petal, mint, spice, kirsch, new French oak and dried flowers all build with aeration. The oak imprint is a bit prominent at this stage, but these wines have proven over time to have the substance to handle the wood." —Antonio Galloni

"The 2018 Barolo Bussia is slightly subdued (almost) compared to the other new releases from this estate, although you'd need to take that comment in context since all of Parusso's wine bat above their weight. With 15% alcohol, this vintage shows dark fruit, spicy plum, cherry skin and potting soil. The Bussia is always a hallmark of Mark Parusso's unique winemaking approach. Fruit comes from the Rocche and Munie vineyards in the Bussia MGA of Monforte d'Alba. 8,000 bottles were made." —Monica Larner

"Super charged on the nose, this is a step up again from both the Mariondino and Mosconi, albeit with a similar aromatic profile - floral tones and sweet red cherry pits but more expressive. Gorgeous minerality and excellent precision on the nose too with strawberry, red cherry and raspberry notes. Excellent acidity, this also has abundant tannins but they are slightly more velvety, rounded and coursing. The texture is so appealing but this has a different depth and edge of minerality to it, slightly dry on the palate but velvety with rich but defined notes of red fruits, cherry sweets, cola, milk chocolate and violets. The florality is there on the palate too. This is smooth, juicy and clean - you get the succulence but also the salinity, the ripe fruit and plushness but also the refinement and delicacy of each individual flavour. This is seriously expressive, fully flavoured with such a long length, it goes on and on. A supremely fine wine, I love it!"

"This red is marked by effusive aromas of steeped cherry, plum, eucalyptus, hay and vanilla. Quickly accedes to dry, dusty tannins, but never gets too overbearing. Shows a nice, ripe core of fruit. Best from 2025."

More about Parusso

Marco Parusso took over his family's small, obscure estate in Monforte d'Alba in 1986 and built it into one of Barolo's finest. He's moved 66 wines to 90+ points in Wine Spectator blind tastings. The 23 hectares now produce 120,000 bottles a year of Dolcetto, Barbera, and Nebbiolo—the classic Piedmont trio. The style combines approachability on release with the aging potential that Barolo is famous for. That's the Parusso recipe: make it sing young, let it evolve forever.
