The "Conquete" vineyard boasts deeper topsoil (70cm or so) on top of a bedrock of tuffeau, the soft limestone that is hallmark to the Loire Valley (also the material from which Corbineau's cellars are dug). Aged in epoxy tank, this shows the sleekness of the vintage, with high acid, a silky texture, and high-toned fruit accented by earthy sanguine and floral notes.

More about Patrick Corbineau

Patrick Corbineau is the last winemaker left in Candes St. Martin, a Loire village where everyone else went modern. He still works mostly alone with his horse, farming six hectares the way the ancients did—no tractors, no chemicals. His Cabernet Francs come from very old vines, organically-plus farmed, aged for at least three years. These wines taste like they arrived from another century, and that's exactly the point. In a world of shortcuts, Corbineau is uncompromising.
