From the relatively undiscovered Côtes de Auxerre, Petite Empreinte’s Tapis Rouge 2023 is a beautiful expression of Burgundy’s Pinot Noir, showcasing the potential of this cool-climate region. With organic farming practices at the core of the estate’s philosophy, the wine reflects both the purity of the grape and the nuances of its terroir.

The 2023 vintage is lively and fresh, with aromas of red berries—cherry and raspberry—complemented by subtle floral notes. On the palate, it’s light yet structured, with silky tannins and a bright acidity that keeps the wine fresh and approachable. The finish is clean and balanced, offering a hint of earthiness that speaks to the region’s mineral-rich soils.

Petite Empreinte’s Tapis Rouge is a versatile wine, ideal for pairing with a wide range of dishes, from grilled meats and roasted vegetables to charcuterie and soft cheeses. It’s a charming, easy-drinking Burgundy that can be enjoyed now but will also continue to develop with a few years of aging.

What importer Bowler Wine has to say about this wine...

100% Pinot Noir. 2023 is the second vintage from this hectare of Pinot Noir on a gentle, south-facing slop of Portlandian limestone in Saint Bris. Planted in 1978 and farmed organically with low yields (40 hl/ha). The bunches are hand-harvested, left in whole clusters and spontaneously fermented with indigenous yeasts in barrique with a 12-day maceration and two to three gentle pumpovers. The wine is aged for a year in barrique--only one barrel is produced--without racking and is bottled without filtration. Zero sulfur is added to the wine.
