One of the newest names in the Langhe, working one of Barolo's classic addresses, and this time in magnum. Philine Isabelle is a young, very small project rather than a multi-generational estate, which in a region this hidebound is itself a small act of nerve. Preda lies in the commune of Barolo proper, and like every Barolo in existence this is Nebbiolo, full stop: pale in the glass and formidable on the palate. The 2022 growing season in Piedmont was hot and dry, which tends to push ripe fruit forward without sanding down Nebbiolo's structure, so expect rose, cherry and tar riding on serious, dusty tannin. Magnums age more slowly and pour more generously, which makes this the format for both the patient and the hospitable. Decant it hard for a table full of people, or bury it in the cellar and forget about it.
