Antonio Galloni

"The 2007 Clos des Goisses is gorgeous. Almost shockingly finessed and light on its feet for Goisses, the 2007 is a wine of superb elegance. The power and richness of Goisses is there, but in the background. It will be many years before the 2007 blossoms into a complete, fully expressive Champagne. Even so, it is striking today. With time, hints of lemon confit, chamomile and marzipan develop in the glass, but readers will have to cellar the 2007 for at least five years, maybe more, to get the full Goisses experience. Dosage is 4.5 grams per liter. Disgorged June, 2016." -Antonio Galloni

"Disgorged in November 2017, the 2007 Extra Brut Clos des Goisses Juste Rosé continues to show brilliantly, unwinding in the glass with an attractive bouquet that mingles notes of red berries, cherries and apple with nuances of cut flowers, fresh bread and spices, without the riper, tropical top notes found in the 2008. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, satiny textured and multidimensional, with extraordinary concentration, an incisive spine of acidity and a long, chalky finish. Charles Philipponnat adds that he used to think rosé aged faster, but he has come to believe that red wine phenolics "frame" the wine and in fact increase its potential longevity. Since Clos des Goisses is already arguably Champagne's longest-lived wine, who knows how far the 2007 will go." -William Kelley

"The steep, sun-drenched slope of Clos des Goisses has no equal in Champagne, but its thumping ripeness can be alarming. In some vintages it finds an alluring harmony, and 2007 is one of these. Its voluminous power is met by malic acidity, with control on the finish, projecting the presence of salty chalk minerality with Clos des Goisses confidence."

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
