Chardonnay off ancient limestone, made with a restraint that lets the site do the talking. Prieler grows this in Ried Sinner at Schützen, on marine limestone and mica-schist — the same fossil-rich, coral-reef geology that defines the best sites above Lake Neusiedl. It's fermented and kept on its lees in stainless steel right up to bottling, which builds texture and depth without any new oak muddying the picture. The result is a Chardonnay that trades butter and vanilla for mineral tension, orchard fruit and a saline lift. Proof that Burgenland can do serious, unshowy Chardonnay.
