Rabajà is the cru where Barbaresco's two main ridges meet — one running west toward the Tanaro, growing steadily less calcareous, the other running north to Ovello with higher calcium — and that collision of soils is exactly why the site gives such complete, layered Nebbiolo. It borders both Asili and Muncagota, and takes the personality of each and adds richness from its warm south-west exposure; Produttori first bottled it on its own in 1970, from a 3.7-hectare parcel of calcareous limestone shot through with sandy veins. The house recipe is unhurried and old-school: 100% Nebbiolo, aged in large oak botti. This is the quiet genius of the Produttori model — a cooperative of 51 families farming nearly 100 hectares of Barbaresco Nebbiolo, delivering cru-level wine at a price no single estate with this pedigree would dream of asking. An aged bottle of one of the appellation's most serious sites, and still among the best cellar values in Italian wine.

Antonio Galloni

92 points

"Good full red. Reticent but very pure nose opens to reveal cherry, plum, spices, mocha and smoke. Broad, concentrated and deep but very young and inexpressive today. This seriously thick, layered Barbaresco displays very good definition and finishes with excellent length and energy." —Stephen Tanzer

Decanter

91 points

"Along with Asili and Santo Stefano, Rabajà is Barbaresco’s best vineyard. Bigger, fleshier but less mineral wines than the more aristocratic Asili. Has energy, spice and lift."

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Brasato al Barolo, agnolotti del plin in butter and sage, roast guinea fowl or duck, porcini risotto, and aged Castelmagno or Parmigiano at the end of the meal.

Tasting Profile

Mature Nebbiolo: dried cherry, rose petal, tar, leather and sweet earth. Medium to full bodied, bright acidity, firm tannins softened by time in bottle, with a long savory finish. Decant it.
