A mature Vosne-Romanee Premier Cru from a tiny under-the-radar domaine, now hitting the sweet spot that makes cellaring Burgundy worth the wait. Les Beaux Monts sits on the northern edge of Vosne, spilling toward Flagey-Echezeaux, on clay-and-limestone marl with a southeast tilt, terroir that gives Pinot Noir both perfume and backbone. Cacheux farms only a few hectares here, working traditionally and quietly while flashier neighbors get the headlines. 2014 was a classic, fresh, precise vintage in the Cote de Nuits, elegant rather than opulent, and at a decade-plus it has begun to trade primary fruit for the savory, forest-floor complexity that is the whole point of aged red Burgundy. Give it time in the glass and it keeps unfolding.
