Roc des Anges makes the case for the new Roussillon better than almost anyone, and Segna de Cor is where that case is easiest to make. Marjorie Gallet farms biodynamically in the Catalan foothills — ancient vineyards on the decomposed schist of the Forca Real, between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean — and this blend of Carignan, Grenache and Syrah is her most immediate red. It's bright and juicy but never sweet, with the herbal, mineral snap that separates the region's serious wines from its sunbaked ones. Medium-bodied and dry, it drinks happily on its own, though it won't turn down dinner. The Roussillon spent decades out of fashion; bottles like this are why that's changing.
