A rare California take on Trousseau Noir - the pale, perfumed Jura grape - from new-wave icon Tegan Passalacqua's Sandlands. Sandlands is built on overlooked heritage vineyards and obscure varieties, bottled with a deliberately light, detailed touch that captures freshness over power, and it's been a Flatiron favorite since day one. Grown on the cool Sonoma Coast, Trousseau gives a translucent, aromatic, low-tannin red that drinks more like a fragrant Pinot than a heavyweight. The 2024 is fresh and vibrant, made for near-term drinking and a slight chill. As always with Sandlands, production is minuscule - grab it while you can.

Tegan Passalacqua spent over two decades at Turley, rising from harvest intern to Director of Winemaking, and Sandlands is his love letter to California's old vines. The focus is sandy, decomposed-granite soils and ancient head-trained, dry-farmed, own-rooted vineyards, mostly in Contra Costa County and Lodi: Carignane, Mataro, Cinsault, Zinfandel, Chenin Blanc and more. Minimal intervention, low yields and real depth in the glass. These are wines about place, not ego.
