Three cool-climate red varieties—Pinot Noir, Zweigelt, and St. Laurent—converge in this traditional-method rosé from one of Austria's oldest wine estates. Schloss Gobelsburg traces its vineyard history to 1171, when Cistercian monks first planted the Kamptal's now-legendary Heiligenstein and Gaisberg sites. The Brut Rosé draws its grapes from ancient Danube gravel banks, where the tension between Pannonian warmth and Waldviertel cool creates wines of startling precision. A minimum of three years on the lees builds a creamy mousse beneath the wine's vibrant acidity—a sparkling rosé that rivals Champagne in complexity while remaining unmistakably Austrian.

Robert Parker

92 points

"The NV Brut Rosé is a pale salmon colored blend of 65% Zweigelt and 35% Pinot Noir, both fermented in large oak vats, with malolactic fermentation done in stainless steel. The wine shows the highly delicate bouquet of a matured wine and reveals a vinous character with very fine red berry and sweet cherry aromas along with notes of brioche, herbs (oregano, marjoram), flint and refreshing lemon aromas. Beautifully light, fine and tender on the palate, this is an intense, round and perfectly balanced and vinous rosé with a delicate grip on the finish." —Robert Parker

More about Schloss Gobelsburg

Schloss Gobelsburg is literally the oldest winery in the Danube region, dating to 1171. Located in the Kamptal near Vienna, it's been held by Cistercian monks since 1740 and operated since 1996 by Michael and Eva Moosbrugger. Karen MacNeil calls it 'one of the great wine estates of the world.' They make Rieslings that are mineral-driven, stone-fruited, and utterly classical from vineyards like Gaisberg and Heiligenstein. This is tradition with real depth.

Tasting Profile

Pale rosé sparkling with strawberry, red apple, and mineral notes; delicate bubbles, crisp acidity, and a bright, dry, refreshing finish.

Schloss Gobelsburg, a Cistercian monastic estate founded in Austria's Kamptal Valley in 1171 (1171!), is one of the largest holders of local “Grand Cru” terroirs: Heiligenstein, Gaisberg, Lamm, Renner, and Grub. When you mix all that tradition and terroir with the top-notch winemaking you get brilliant, age-worthy wines of complexity and depth.

Eva and Michael Moosbrugger were granted the winemaking and viticultural contract in 1996, and with the help and guidance of Michael’s mentor, Willi Bründlmayer, the winery has regained its prestige and is considered to be a leader in quality and innovation.
