America's pioneering sparkling-wine house, in its founding style. Schramsberg's Blanc de Blancs was the first wine they made back in 1965 and the first commercially produced Chardonnay-based brut sparkler in the U.S., famously poured at Nixon's 1972 'Toast to Peace' in Beijing. It's 100% Chardonnay drawn from cool-climate North Coast vineyards across Napa, Sonoma and Marin, made by the traditional method with small lots of barrel-fermented base wine blended in for complexity, then aged about two years on the lees. The result is dry, crisp and finely beaded, with bright apple and citrus and a touch of toasty depth. A genuinely classy domestic bubbly that holds its own with the imports.

More about Schramsberg Vineyards

Schramsberg, founded in 1862, is one of Napa's oldest estates and basically wrote the book on California sparkling wine using traditional méthode champenoise. Jack and Jamie Davies restored it in 1965. These wines age extensively on the lees, resulting in complex aromas, rich textures, fine mousse. The Blanc de Blancs is iconic—bright, elegant, complex. When Nixon served it at a state dinner for Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai in 1972, America was watching. This is sparkling wine that changed the country.
