Pinot Blanc is no sideline at Seehof — the estate bottles a Weissburgunder from the Morstein grand cru that delivers everything you'd want from that profound site, and this dry Elektro-Weiss is the everyday expression of that same seriousness. Vom Boden, who bring the wines in, hold Seehof's basic estate bottlings up as the benchmark for the category, arguing no estate makes a more profound entry-level wine. Limestone is the thread running through everything here: it gives the wines their texture and the acidity that keeps them buoyant rather than heavy. Florian Fauth farms around the village of Westhofen — he happens to be Klaus Peter Keller's brother-in-law, working comparable ground — and the house style is consistent across the range: crystalline, pure, energetic. If you love dry German whites but want a break from Riesling, this is the bottle, and it overdelivers for what it is.

Flatiron's Take

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Roast chicken with lemon and thyme, trout with brown butter and almonds, schnitzel with cucumber salad, asparagus with hollandaise, soft-shell crab, or a plate of cold cuts and good bread.

Tasting Profile

Dry and light-to-medium bodied, with gentle orchard fruit — pear and apple — and a chalky, mineral edge. Crisp acidity keeps it lifted and clean rather than broad, and the finish is dry, saline and refreshing. Serve well chilled.

WINE GUIDES

German Wines

Is there a better grape than Riesling? Is there a better value? Its fruit purity, its perfume, and its mineral nuance are all unparalleled. And for centuries, the top German Rieslings were priced accordingly: at least as expensive as the top red wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy. But nowadays you could spend a lifetime exploring Germany’s great Riesling-producing regions while staying well within your budget. You might take an occasional break to try Germany’s other white grapes or perhaps a glass of Spätburgunder (the local name for Pinot Noir). It’s time to get started!
