"With a vivid display of rose hips, sage, crushed pomegranates, cinnamon, clove and white smoke, the 2019 Etna Rosso Dagala di Bocca D'Orzo makes itself known. This grows in both volume and depth the longer it sits in the glass. At one moment, it’s a sweetly scented whisper of dusty violets, and at another, a boisterous and savory burst of wild herbs. It’s deeply textural, almost glycerol-like in feel, yet in perfect balance, as silky textures flow across the palate with a polished display of red berries and spices. While structured and firm, the 2019 tapers off with remarkable freshness, but also length, leaving rosy florals and hints of plum to linger on. Terre Nere made just 800 bottles of this absolutely stunning expression of Etna terroir. The Dagala di Bocca D'Orzo hails from Randazzo on the north side of the volcano, from seventy-year-old vines planted at 800 meters in soils of deep volcanic ash and pebbles." —Eric Guido

"Made in extremely limited quantities, this gorgeous wine boasts supreme finesse, opening with enticing scents of wild berry, rose, flint and Mediterranean brush. The sole surviving vineyard of a 1981 lava flow that submerged Bocca d’Orzo, one of Etna’s most celebrated crus, the palate boasts ethereal elegance and structure, delivering red cherry, pomegranate, star anise and an almost salty mineral finish. Lithe, polished tannins and fresh acidity lend impeccable balance. Drink through 2034. Exquisite."

Nearly 50 hectares of volcanic terroir, farmed with a reverence for old traditions, yielding Nerello Mascalese with an ethereal intensity that towers above most modern Italian reds. This is the wine that changed Etna from curiosity to command.
