A quarter-century-old Beaune premier cru from one of the Côte de Beaune's most dependable family names, and the chance to drink properly aged red Burgundy without paying grand cru prices. Tollot-Beaut farms half a hectare right in the middle of the Grèves vineyard, on sand and gravel soils. It's a prized holding for a family whose roots are entirely in Chorey-lès-Beaune. The story starts in the late 1880s, when François Tollot began planting vines in Chorey. His son Alexandre kept the work going and married Aurélie Beaut, which is where the double-barrelled name comes from. Later generations added small parcels in Savigny, Aloxe-Corton and Beaune, and this Grèves is one of the jewels from those purchases. The house aims for wines that are serious but pleasing, and an older bottle like this 2000 is the most interesting way to see what that approach looks like with real age on it.
