This is a chance to taste one of Trimbach's two flagship cuvées at nearly fifty years old: a 1976 Gewurztraminer Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre, from a house whose whites are built to be structured, dry and long-lived. Trimbach counts this wine and its Pinot Gris Réserve Personnelle as its two great wines from its best terroirs, and makes them only in the best vintages. The name comes from the land. The grapes are picked at full ripeness from old vines on what was once the wine estate of the Lords of Ribeaupierre. There's a nice bit of timing, too: the house was founded in 1626, so 1976 was the year it turned 350. People rarely expect Gewurztraminer to age, and that's the reason to open a bottle like this one. It shows what the grape turns into after decades in the hands of a producer this committed to dryness and structure. Stand it upright for a day, open it gently and let it show you how it has aged.

Tasting Profile

Expect Trimbach's firm, dry take on Gewurztraminer. With long bottle age, the grape's lychee and floral perfume typically soften into dried apricot, candied ginger, honeyed notes and exotic spice over a textured, full-bodied palate.
