Old-vine Cinsault from Guarilihue, in the southern reaches of Chile's Itata Valley — dry-farmed bush vines on their own roots, in soils of decomposed granite 22 km from the Pacific. Itata is where New World winegrowing actually started, with vines first planted in 1551, and un-grafted vines like these have become genuinely scarce; that rarity is what the label is named for, and the De Martino brothers, Marco and Sebastian, bought this parcel in 2013 specifically to keep its traditions going. The vineyard is still worked by hand and plowed by horse, and the maritime climate brings enough rain — around 900 mm a year — that irrigation was never part of the equation. Vinification stays deliberately old-fashioned so the granite and the sea air come through unmasked. The result is Cinsault at its most transparent: light on its feet, savory, and built for drinking rather than contemplating. For a wine with this much history and hand-work behind it, the quality-to-price ratio is frankly absurd.

Antonio Galloni

"The 2025 Cinsault Ungrafted from Guarilihue in Itata was aged for eight months in very old barrels. The nose offers pure cherry and pomegranate fruit alongside a delicate violet note, a less typical but appealing facet of the variety. Dry, fluid and agile on the palate, it has a smooth texture and strong flavor intensity. It sits in the glou-glou vein, yet with added depth and a modern edge. Clear and seductive." —Joaquín Hidalgo

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Grilled chorizo or merguez, roast chicken with paprika, empanadas de pino, lentil stew with sausage, charred eggplant, or a pile of carnitas tacos. Serve it with a slight chill.

Tasting Profile

Light-to-medium bodied, with red and dark cherry fruit and a floral violet lift. Fresh acidity, fine and gentle tannins, a faintly earthy, stony edge from the granite soils, and a clean, juicy finish. Easy to drink, not heavy.
